Private Property

Alife and UHURU Present...
By Pete Williams

Alife first opened in 1999 with the goal to showcase individuals whose work enriched their lives with original ideas. More specifically, people who also had a commitment to the qualitative execution of those ideas - from fashion to graffiti, this was the criteria they lived by.

Fast forward to 2011. The New York Art Department, a newly minted Alife offshoot, has organized a group of artists and contributors who meet these same requirements: Earsnot and Semen Sperms of the infamous IRAK crew; Craig "KR" Costello of KRINK; witty, educated newcomer JIM JOE and the legendary Lower East Side watering hole Max Fish. With a heavy crew in place, Alife comes in as the curator and long-time supporter of the scene with its stamp of approval: NY CRACK.

What's all this about? It's an initiative called Private Property that, in addition to those previously mentioned, includes NY's own UHURU Furniture and The Hole Gallery. Read on as Rob Cristofaro and Arnaud Dellecolle of ALIFE educate us on the movement.
