![]() Every now and then life will deal you aces. If you know how to play’em, sometimes that one good hand is all you need to get ahead at the table. That’s the first part of the story for Manhattan photographer, Shaniqwa Jarvis. She got dealt a lucky break at Paper Magazine where she leveraged a simple internship into a fruitful career as an independent photographer. In the few short years after her internship she moved on to Parsons and later went on to work for Time Out New York and a host of other publications. Throughout her career, Jarvis has produced work for brands like Supreme, Stussy, Nike and Reebok in addition to shooting New York City influencers and musicians like RZA, Mos Def and Lee Scratch Perry.
Most recently Jarvis was selected to be a part of Beck’s Green Box Project—an art fund designed to support emerging talent in the arts and entertainment. High Snobiety recently caught up with her on her quickly expanding portfolio, recent work and her unique insight on what it takes to make it as a up-and-comer in the always competitive world of lifestyle photography. |
